I know its Autumn but this gorgeous linen / silk mix fabric is perfect for Spring and also ticks the box for this seasons BIG 1960’s styling. (Although perhaps the shape of the coat is a bit more 70’s than 60s.) Here is my version of the New Look pattern 6736.
This New Look pattern is pretty easy. It looks good and holds its shape well in a heavy weight fabric like this one. The pattern is unlined but I have just cut out the pattern again in a cream cotton to make a lining (its an old bed sheet actually) – and then finished the inside with some pretty pink polka dot ribbon for a bit of a Boden style finish!
The wide lapels are great and it has lovely deep pockets and three quarter length sleeves. I have used some oversized bone buttons to fasten but actually I think it looks better undone.
This bobbly linen is quite a coarse weave which gives my version a casual look but I think it would look great for going out made in a heavy black satin – really dramatic and glamorous (and flattering as it is very fitted when it is done up.)
