Contrast lace top – FREE SEWING PATTERN

Alone topcontrast-lace-top-1I don’t normally do lace, it’s a bit too girly for me. But I do love the bright colours of this top. It cuts out the chintz and makes it just a bit edgy.

The pattern is a free one from On the Cutting Floor. They actually operate on a pay what you want basis so you can make a goodwill payment. They do some great simple free patterns as well as some nice quality ones to buy. This is their A-line Top (although I have cut the neckline on my top slightly wider than their pattern shows.)

This two tone lace top is created by cutting the same pattern twice and lining one with the other. I used an amazing green lacelace-sewing-pattern-detail backed with a simple magenta lining fabric. I have used the scalloped edge of the lace fabric as the bottom of the top. It is VERY easy to do and saves on hemming (which is just a bit boring, isn’t it?)

It is inspired by some of the really top-end coloured lace from Prada – I love this burnt orange coat and the top in beige! And take a look at the Karen Millen spin off in yellow which is actually a print onto a sheer fabric.

There are loads of colour and texture options with this double layer style of top. It would also look good, and a little less in your face (for those of you who are wincing at the pink and green), in black lace with a nude lining or a classic navy lace with a cream lining.
