I’m Laura, the creator of Sew Different. My background is originally in painting and textiles – I have an honours degree in Fine Art. I have always drafted my own patterns and I started Sew Different initially as a blog to share those patterns with you. It has been such a pleasure to be able to put my paintings into a sewing context by developing Sew Different’s own fabrics.

As Sew Different has expanded, so has our team and I am lucky to work with other people who are so passionate about sewing.

Tara and Emma (below) teach on our sewing retreats. Tara (left) has a BA Honours in Fashion and, when she isn’t on one of our retreats, she is the manager of the fabulous Fabworks Mill Shop. She knows everything there is to know about fabric. She is also a bespoke bag designer and leatherworker. You make recognise as the model on some of our pattern covers.

Emma has been sewing for as long as she can remember. She has a BA Hons degree in Fashion and Textiles, as well as over 35 years of dressmaking experience, including 12 years working in the garment making industry. She started teaching workshops in her spare time and now work as a dedicated freelance sewing tutor on our sewing retreats and at other events across the country.

Katie teaches our pattern cutting courses. She has a BA Honours in Fashion Design and has worked as a military tailor for 5 years. As well as teaching you the intricacies of a bodice block, she also works as a fashion technician giving pattern cutting and sewing support to students. She loves to share her knowledge and help people create clothing that fits perfectly!
