Trouser Fitting Workshop
Join us for a 2 day workshop to learn the skills of trouser fitting.
This class is run by our pattern cutting expert, Katie, who will help you to accurately take your own measurements. From these you will use a very simple trousers block as a starting point and draft your own shape in calico. Adjustments and tweaks will be made where needed and a fastening will be added. You will go home with a toile that fits you. You can use your customised paper block to add your own design features or to use as a template against commercial patterns to ensure a better fit.
THE COURSE
Our Trouser Fitting workshop is suitable for those who already have some sewing experience. You don’t need to be an expert, but you will need to be familiar with techniques involved in making a basic garment.
Under the supervision of Katie, an experienced cutter (and tailor in a past life), you will make a paper pattern that fits your body shape, learn how to make adjustments, construct a toile in calico.
All machines, equipment, pattern cutting paper and calico are included in the retreat cost.
You will go home with a trouser pattern that has been customised to fit your own body shape and the knowledge of how to adjust other patterns in the same way.
What’s included:
All machines, equipment, pattern cutting paper and calico are included in the retreat cost. We use one of their high quality, entry level models – the Bernette B35, but you are welcome to bring your own machine if this is what you prefer to use. We provide a delicious lunch each day along with teas, coffees and cake to keep you going along the way. We also offer a 25% discount on any Sew Different patterns and 10% off Sew Different fabrics that are purchased while you are at the workshop.
The venue:
Sew Different is located within the Dean Clough mill complex in a dedicated sewing studio with lots of natural light. There is plenty of onsite parking (free at weekends). We are located on the first floor with lift access.
Overnight accommodation is not included, however there is a Travel Lodge on site located a 2 minute walk from the studio as well as many hotels in Halifax centre. Halifax town centre, bus station and train station are a ten minute walk from the studio.
Workshop Hours: 9.30pm – 4.30pm • Lunch is included – please advise of dietary requirements at the time of booking.
Total cost: £250 • £100 deposit required to book your place and the full balance required 6 weeks before the course starts. Please note that deposits are non-refundable.

Private workshops for solo sewists or small groups can be arranged. They can be run to a similar format as our listed retreat but you would have the studio to yourselves.
