Join us for a 2 day workshop to make a mannequin to match your own body measurements.
This class is run by our pattern cutting expert, Katie, who will help you to accurately take your own measurements. From these you will use a very simple bodice block as a starting point and draft your own shape in calico. Adjustments and tweaks will be made where needed and a zip is added up the back. This will be used as the skin of your mannequin which we will then pad out with wadding to replicate your body shape. You will go home with a mannequin that you can use to create better fitting clothes.
What you will need:
You will need to bring your own mannequin – it needs to be SMALLER that your actual body size so that we can build it up to your actual body size. Please wear some close fitting garments to make taking your own body measurement easier.

All equipment and materials except mannequin (calico, wadding, thread etc) are included in the course. Our sewing studio is sponsored by Bernina. We use one of their high quality, entry level models – the Bernette B35, but you are welcome to bring your own machine if this is what you prefer to use. We provide a delicious lunch each day along with teas, coffees and cake to keep you going along the way. We also offer a 30% discount on any Sew Different patterns and 10% off Sew Different fabrics that are purchased while you are at the workshop.
The venue:
Sew Different is located within the Dean Clough mill complex in a dedicated sewing studio with lots of natural light. There is plenty of onsite parking (free at weekends). We are located on the first floor with lift access.
Overnight accommodation is not included, however there is a Travel Lodge on site located a 2 minute walk from the studio as well as many hotels in Halifax centre. Halifax town centre, bus station and train station are a ten minute walk from the studio.
Workshop Hours: 9.30pm – 4.30pm • Lunch is included – please advise of dietary requirements at the time of booking.
