laura-filmingHello sewists! I have been very quiet with my posting over the last few months because I have been working a a BRAND NEW project that I am very excited about. It’s called Skillshare and, yes, it allows me to share MY skills with YOU on a step-by-step learning platform!

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links because I think Skillshare is brilliant and if you want to find out how brilliant it is by signing up for a 3-month trial for a bankbreaking 78p (that’s $0.99,) I get a commission.

Skillshare is a learning community for creators and makers. Anyone can join Skillshare to enrol in online classes, watch video lessons, create projects, and even become a teacher. There are over 12,000 classes available in creative subjects ranging from painting and cooking to writing, photography and technology

I have completed the very first of a series of video tutorials for all sewists (but particularly the beginners out there.) So if you can use a sewing machine but have never attempted to make a piece of clothing for yourself, then this is the perfect project for you.

laura-in-jacketThis first project is an easy to wear Raw Edge Jacket (shown left) that come in 5 sizes from X small to X large. It’s a great throw on garment that can be made it lots of different fabrics for completely different looks and, above all, it is EASY.

screen-shot-2016-11-30-at-09-29-03You can browse Skillshare to see what’s available and access some of the free tutorials. Go Premium which allows you  unlimited access to the 12,000+ tutorials. And the best bit is that for a short period via this link you can get your first 3 months for 78p (that’s $0.99.)

Have a look at my class introduction. You’ll see that it includes a FREE sewing pattern as well the tutorial where I talk you through every step, from downloading the pattern, putting it together, choosing the right fabric, cutting it out and making it up. There are clear demonstrations, animated diagrams and it is broken down into bitesize pieces so it all feels manageable. If you download the app, you can save the lessons offline, so you can listen when you’re out and about.
